From the article: Which Thread is Best?
Some quilters (like me) choose a fairly narrow selection of threads. I don't use lots of colors, but I do choose threads that best suit the task I'm working on. Piecing, machine quilting, embroidery by hand or machine, hand quilting -- thread types differ and there are loads of brand choices. Do you have a favorite brand or type of thread for specific quilting tasks? For piecing, do you use neutral colors that blend, or try to match colors -- or does it depend on the quilt? How about machine quilting -- what works best? And what's your favorite thread for hand quilting? Do you treat your hand sewing threads with beeswax or another product? We'd appreciate any advice you would like to offer. Share Your Favorites

favorite threads

I've got two favorite threads for machine quilting. If I'm looking for a lightweight, delicate effect, I like So Fine (polyester). It's available in a huge array of colors and is now available in variegated. If I want a "threadier" look, I use King Tut cotton thread. It's also available in solids and variegated. For piecing, I use any good quality, neutral color thread.
