Cosmic Resolutions Mystery Quilt

Cosmic Resolutions

Why I chose my colors

I was determined to use only fabric from my stash but I'm also an orderly quilter. After a LOT of digging and playing I finally settled on these colors and I was surprised at how startling the results were. I call it Cosmic Resolutions because of the dark blue star field fabric I used for the background and the fact that the yellows remind me of shooting stars while the blues remind me of comets. The resolutions part of the name is because it's a New Year's Day mystery quilt and one of my resolutions was to use more of my stash and also to actually FINISH a quilt.

Why I chose either scrappy or orderly

I'm TRYING to break free of my orderly mind set but I'm not quite confident of my ability to choose the right shades of warm/cool etc. so for this one I went with orderly especially since it was a stashbuster quilt.

Tips and Tricks

  • Just because it's a one day mystery quilt does NOT mean you have to do it in just one day. I made my blocks over several days, but once I'd finally settled on the layout I tried to sew it all together in one evening. I can't tell you how many times I ended up tearing out seams and re-sewing them.

What I might do differently if I use the pattern again

Now that I know the results I think I have enough confidence to go with a scrappy version the next time.

Other thoughts about the mystery quilt

I love the challenge of a mystery quilt. This is my second one and I can guarantee you there will be many more in my future. Thanks Janet for providing this for us.
