My First Quilt - Frolic Variation in Teal

Frolic Variation in Teal

What made you choose the pattern?

I chose this pattern because it went so well with the fabrics. The fabrics were found at a quilt shop in Cambria, CA, and at that time I had not sewed anything in about 20 years.

Did you finish the quilt? If not, why?

Yes, it was finished about 1 year after I started quilting.

What do you love (or hate) about the quilt?

I love the colors, which is what drew me in at the beginning. I am completely happy with it.

What would you do differently next time?

Maybe choose a simpler pattern, but actually this one taught me many basic skills at the very beginning. My best friend taught me to quilt, and when she saw the pattern, she asked me if I wanted to do such a challenging one, and I said sure, why not. So we tackled it, and after about 6 weeks the top was done.

What was the most difficult aspect of the project?

Learning all the brand new skills needed to cut and sew this quilt. The idea of cutting and sewing so very carefully was a challenge for me, because I am usually in such a hurry to complete whatever it is I am working on. I had been a needlepointer and crocheter for many years, but always stuck to easy, quick projects. The quilting required me to slow down and make decisions to perfect the design and construction of the quilt. It has become my "therapy" to go into my sewing room each evening and slow down and create quilts for my family. This has been a challenge, in that it has forced me to change myself.
