What made you choose the pattern?
Since I didn't have access to any patterns, I decided to draw on white poly, embroider that and then piece it together with cornerstones and sashing.
Did you finish the quilt? If not, why?
I finished the quilt, didn't care for the colour I chose (yellow) for the sashing, repeated the process with more drawing and embroidery and pieced it with another colour (orange)..70's colours
What do you love (or hate) about the quilt?
Love the cartoon characters I embroidered (one was Snow White and the other was Cinderella...both from comic book characters)
What would you do differently next time?
Nothing..it was appropriate for the time.
What was the most difficult aspect of the project?
I didn't know how to put it in the frame and depended on others to show me the way. After three tries to install for quilting I broke down and called my mother in law and she gladly helped me put it in the frame. You must realize that I married into a quilting family and had never even contemplated joining in. Needless to say, after seeing all the different things one could do I was hooked. I've been quilting for 32 years and still get excited seeing all the new patterns.
Tips and Tricks
- Quilters are extraordinarily generous with their knowledge and advice. My sister in law gifted me with a thimble, quilting needle and thread and never said a word, just laid them softly on the quilt and walked away. She saved my fingers and my pride.
