Inspiration for my postcard's design
Saw on the internet that Zentangles were a popular pastime of doodling ink on paper. So I tried to create a fabric postcard with a Zentangle design of my own.
Techniques I used to make the postcard
To help keep the background fabric from shifting while doing the free motion quilting, use same color thread as fabric and stitch close to edge of the card.
I created a 'box' around the card just over a 1/4inch from the edge.
Free motion quilting of high contrast thread onto background fabric.
When you are done with your design and the background fabric is fused onto the back of the card, you can use a decorative stitch in any color thread around the edge if you want, or use a straight stitch in same color. No rules.
Use a roller ball pen to write address and message on back. Heat set with an iron.
Tips and Tricks
- You can use a non-cotton fabric for background to do your free motion quilting, or use cotton.
- Be sure to use threads and fabric that have high contrast.
Materials I used to make my fabric postcard
Used HeatNBond lite for fusing fabric to Peltex70, which is the firm portion of the card and fused a light cotton for the address side
How long did it take to make the postcard?
Less than one hour
