My early sightseeing has revolved around Sedona and Phoenix. It's incredible how quickly the topography changes when driving the hundred miles or so between those two towns, moving from a flat desert with its succulent plants to the ever-changing mountains.
I know many other states (and regions around the world) have a huge variety of topography (and climates) within their borders. It's the variety that inspired me to initiate a series of challenges to you (and to me) to create site-inspired quilts -- starting with Arizona.
What Kind of Quilt
Your quilt can be applique or it can be pieced (or wholecloth, painted or another technique -- your choice). It can be small or large -- it could even be a single quilt block. And the quilt does not have to depict a scene -- a patchwork quilt might represents colors or textures that remind you of some portion of the state. You might even choose to make the quilt block called Arizona (I'll draft that when I return home early next week)."Deadline" for finishing the top: January 15th. When you're finished, do share your quilt with the quilting community.
Exploring colors and textures that are new to you is a wonderful way to stretch our skills. I hope you'll participate in the challenge and stick with me as we move onto other regions.
