Keep Fabric Strips and Patches Neat and Orderly

Long strips of quilting fabric can become a jumbled mess if you don't have some sort of system to keep them orderly. Members of our online quilting community have some fabric organization ideas you might want to consider:

From Pene Ballini:
When I'm making log cabin or other blocks where you keep adding strips, I like to keep the strips organized by length in a plastic flatware tray. I bought a couple at the Dollar Store -- you know, the kind that holds knives, forks and spoons in separate compartments.

From Florence Rye:
When I have extra strips of fabric or am making quilt blocks that use strips, I use pincher clothes pins to group the strips and hang the groups on a wire clothes hanger. They are ready to use when I need them and can also be hung in a closet, out of the way.

From Pamela McQuade:
Do you want to keep pieces or strips organized as you put your block together? Use clothespins to secure all the parts of each block. If you need to identify them, clip a note to the top of the pile.

From Larain Shannon:
I keep my long strips tidy by clipping them by color range on a bulldog clip and then hanging them from a coat hanger makes it easier for selection.
