Make 30 Chain and Knot quilt blocks.

A few notes:

  • Sometimes it's best to cut just what you need for each initial strip set. Cut the rest after you've constructed one set and cut accurate units from it.

  • 42" strips refers to strips cut from selvage to selvage. Do not trim back longer strips.

Make Strip Sets

"Capsule" Print / White & Green Print

  1. Sew a 2-1/2" x 42" "capsule print" strip to each side of a white/green print strip of the same size. Press seam allowances towards the center.

  2. Square up one end of the strip set and cut as many 2-1/2" segments from it as possible (16 average).

  3. Make three identical strip sets. Cut 2-1/2" segments until you have sixty. Set aside.

Brown Print / White & Green Print

  1. Sew a 2-1/2" x 42" brown print strip lengthwise to a white/green print strip of the same size. Press seam allowances towards the brown strip.

  2. Square up one end of the strip set and cut as many 2-1/2" segments as possible (16 average). Make three more identical strip sets; cut a total of sixty segments. Set aside.

Black / Brown Four-Patch Units

  1. Sew a black/floral 1-1/2" x 42" strip lengthwise to a brown strip of the same size. Press seam allowance towards black strip. Square up one end of the strip set and cut as many 1-1/2" segments from it as possible (27-28).

  2. Assemble additional identical strip sets. Cut 240 segments.

  3. Assemble 120 four-patch units from strip sets, arranging like colors diagonally.
