Vintage Chains Quilt

© Janet Wickell, created in EQ v6
Vintage Chains is made with two quilt blocks placed on point. The Five Patch Chain and Chain and Knot blocks each finish at 10-inches square.

The quilt measures about 84" x 98". It has a narrow inner border and a wider outer border. Adjust the size by adding one or more extra borders and/or altering the size of the two that are already in place.

I love Civil War reproduction fabrics and designed this quilt around a few favorites from that era. You can change its appearance dramatically by altering fabrics.

    • Backing, about 94" x 108. Yardage depends on how you piece the backing. You can piece a horizontal backing slightly less wide from about 7-3/4 yards. Remove selvages, cut in thirds and then cut one panel in half along its length. Use it in the center horizontal slot. The remaining half is not used.

    • Batting: About 94" x 108"

    • Binding: Approximately 390 running inches of doublefold binding. Eleven yards if using Moda's bias binding.
