Finish Your String Block

  1. Add another string to the block, aligning its edge right side down along the unsewn edge of the first string. Sew with a 1/4" seam allowance.

  2. Flip the second string right side up and press. Turn the block over and trim long tails back a bit, leaving a little fabric extending past the edge of the foundation.

Continue adding strings to the block. I like to sew two strings before getting up to press and trim -- working from the center outwards as explained. You might find it helpful to set up a small, portable pressing area next to your sewing machine. If you don't like the bulk of a large iron next to you, try Clover's Mini Iron instead -- it's perfect for pressing foundation pieced patches.
