Make the Snowball Quilt Blocks
- Draw a diagonal line on the reverse side of each 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" dark purple square (use chalk or a white pencil if necessary to make line visible, or try a hera marker, which leaves a visible crease in the fabric).
- Use the quick corner instructions in the pattern for A Joyous Celebration to sew a square to each corner of the medium purple Snowball center (sizes differ in that pattern, but the method is exactly the same).
- Your finished block should measure 8-1/2" x 8-1/2".
- Make a total of 20 Snowball quilt blocks.
Assemble Vertical Columns and Add Sashing
- Sew five pinwheel quilt blocks and four snowball blocks into a vertical column, beginning and ending with a pinwheel. Press seam allowances towards the pinwheels. Press the column.
- Repeat to make a total of five identical columns.
- Measure each column lengthwise through its midpoint. Ideally, all lengths should match. If they don't, press again to see if that helps.
- If lengths are still slightly different, add them together and then divide the total by five to determine an average length. Create six strips that length from the purple fabric reserved for sashing.
- Blocks should be directly across from each other after you add sashing and then sew columns side by side. To make that happen, you might need to ease some blocks a bit as you sew them to sashing. Mark the side of sashing strips with a pencil (or other method) to indicate where block seamlines should meet the sashing -- all strips should have identical markings.
- Sew sashing strips to the vertical columns as illustrated. Press seam allowances towards sashing.
