Pinwheel Variation Quilt Block Pattern

There are many ways to assemble the components for this quilt block, but we'll create half-square triangle units. The instructions lead you through assembly using the easy sandwich method. Cutting instructions will vary if you prefer to create your triangle squares on a long strip or a square or rectangular grid.

Cutting for Sandwiched Half-Square Triangle Method

  • From each, deep purple and dark green: Cut (7) 2-7/8" wide strips from selvage to selvage; cut (100) 2-7/8" squares from strips (might need to cut a few more of each from remaining yardage)

  • Pink: cut (4) 2-7/8" wide x 40" strips along the lengthwise grain of fabric in order to conserve fabric length to create one-piece long borders later; cut (50) 2-7/8" squares from strips

  • Light green: cut (11) 2-7/8" wide strips from selvage to selvage; cut (150) 2-7/8" squares from strips

Snowball Quilt Blocks Cutting Instructions

  • Deep purple print: Cut (5) 2-1/2" wide strips from selvage to selvage; cut (80) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares from strips
