We'll turn plain squares into half-square triangle units first, and then sew the HSTs together to create the quarter-square units.
- Cut three 10-1/4" wide strips across the crosswise grain of the blue fabric. After squaring up strip ends, cut four 10-1/4" x 10-1/4" squares from each strip (12 total).
- Cut one more 10-1/4" x 10-1/4" square from remaining blue fabric.
- Repeat, cutting (13) 10-1/4" x 10-1/4" squares from your contrasting fabric.
- Use my instructions for sandwiched half-square triangle units to sew two contrasting squares together. Cut apart to create two half-square triangle units that measure 9-7/8" x 9-7/8".
- Using the same technique, sew the two half-square triangle units together (making sure to align them with unlike fabrics facing) to create two quarter square triangle units that measure 9-1/2" square. Full Instructions, "Basic" directions are on page 2.
- Repeat with all remaining squares to make a total of 26 quarter-square triangle units. One will not be used. Save it for another project, trimming it back if necessary.
