Assemble the Patriotic Quilt
Patriotic Quilt Pattern

Assemble the Album block for the patriotic quilt.

Gather the components you cut and assembled for the patriotic quilt.

  1. Arrange the components into five rows as shown. Sew the components of each row together, pressing seam allowances towards the bar units in all rows. Take care not to stretch the rows when you sew and press.

  2. Join the rows, butting seams for a good match. Press.

  3. Center and sew a large red triangle to each side of the Album block (page 1). Press.

Border Options

Borders are assembled from 7-1/2" wide strips. Use my straight border instructions to make borders for the quilt. Beginning quilters -- don't be tempted to cut borders to equal the lengths of the four sides of the quilt, because the quilt is likely skewed.

Cornerstone Option:

If you assemble the border from crosswise grain strips, the last two added (top and bottom on page 1) will need to be pieced, because they are longer than the width of standard quilting fabric.

Using cornerstones eliminates the need for piecing. Follow the straight border instructions linked above, but cut (4) strips of the same length (rather than 2). Sew borders to two opposite sides as directed.

Now cut (4) 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" squares (any of your other fabrics would be fine). Sew a square to opposite ends of the remaining two border strips. Press seam allowances towards the borders. Sew the border strips with cornerstones to the remaining sides of the quilt.

Mark the quilt for quilting if necessary, sandwich, quilt and bind.
