Small patriotic quilt made from a 30" Album quilt block.

Make a Small Patriotic Quilt

To make this small patriotic quilt, place a single Album quilt block on point and surround it with corner triangles and a single border. Fabrics are primarily red, white and blue, with a gold print used in some of the strip pieced bars.

The Album quilt block finishes at 30" square. After adding a 7" border, the quilt finishes at about 56-1/2" x 56-1/2".

To make a similar quilt, choose two red fabrics, one for the Album block (mine is printed with stars) and one for the corner triangles that surround the block. Use a deep, bright blue within the block and finish with a gold print and a white print (mine both have red stars that are smaller than the lighter stars in the red fabric). The white border fabric is printed with red and blue stars (larger scale than most stars in block fabrics).

Of course, you can sew the quilt in any color combination that suits you, and you can make additional blocks to assemble a larger quilt.

Fabrics for the Patriotic Quilt

Red print for Album block: 3/8 yard

White/red print for Album block: 1/2 yard

Gold/red print for Album block: 1/4 yard

Deep blue print for Album block: 1/2 yard

2nd red print for corner triangles: 3/4 yard if the fabric has a usable width of at least 44-1/4 after pre-washing (otherwise, 1-1/2 yards)

White with red and blue print for border: 1-1/4 yard (top/bottom borders will need to be pieced, but you can avoid that by adding corner squares instead of a continuous border as shown; see page 3)

Binding: about 250 running inches of doublefold binding that finishes at 1/4" (Quilt Binding Strip Instructions)

Backing: 3-1/4 yards if using standard quilting fabric; you will have leftovers (Quilt Backing Instructions)

Batting: About 64" x 64"
