Cutting

Cutting instructions assume you will use the easy sandwich method to construct half square triangle units. Alter cutting (the 3-7/8" squares) to suit a different method.

Multicolor print: Cut (1) 3-1/2" x selvage width strip and (1) 3-1/2" x 13" strip; cut (16) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares from the strips

Black with white dots:

  • Cut (1) 3-1/2" x 13" strip; cut (4) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares from the strips

  • Cut a 3-7/8" x 33" strip, cut (8) 3-7/8" x 3-7/8" squares from the strip

Gray: Cut a 3-7/8" x 33" strip, cut (8) 3-7/8" x 3-7/8" squares from the strip

  1. Pair a 3-7/8" black dot square with a gray square of the same size. Use the easy sandwich method to create two half square triangle units from the squares. When completed, each unit should measure 3-1/2" x 3-1/2".

  2. Repeat to make a total of (16) identical units.

  3. Arrange four half square triangle units, four multicolor print squares and one black dot square into four rows as illustrated.

  4. Sew the components of each row together. Press seam allowances towards the multicolor squares.

  5. Join the rows, butting seams for a perfect match. Press. The quilt block should measure 9-1/2" x 9-1/2".

  6. Repeat, making a total of four identical quilt blocks.
