Make the Alternate Quilt Blocks
CuttingCutting instructions assume you will use the easy sandwich method to construct half square triangle units. Alter cutting (the 3-7/8" squares) to suit a different method.
Multicolor print: Cut (1) 3-1/2" x selvage width strip and (1) 3-1/2" x 13" strip; cut (16) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares from the strips
Black with white dots:
- Cut (1) 3-1/2" x 13" strip; cut (4) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares from the strips
- Cut a 3-7/8" x 33" strip, cut (8) 3-7/8" x 3-7/8" squares from the strip
Gray: Cut a 3-7/8" x 33" strip, cut (8) 3-7/8" x 3-7/8" squares from the strip
- Pair a 3-7/8" black dot square with a gray square of the same size. Use the easy sandwich method to create two half square triangle units from the squares. When completed, each unit should measure 3-1/2" x 3-1/2".
- Repeat to make a total of (16) identical units.
- Arrange four half square triangle units, four multicolor print squares and one black dot square into four rows as illustrated.
- Sew the components of each row together. Press seam allowances towards the multicolor squares.
- Join the rows, butting seams for a perfect match. Press. The quilt block should measure 9-1/2" x 9-1/2".
- Repeat, making a total of four identical quilt blocks.
