About the Ohio Star Quilt Pattern
The Ohio Star quilt is made from 13 quilt blocks. Nine Ohio Stars sit around the perimeter of the quilt and four blocks with an "X" configuration are sewn between them. All quilt blocks are set on point and sewn into diagonal rows. Setting triangles fill in the gaps at row ends.
Ohio Star Quilt Blocks
The Ohio Star blocks look a little different than the norm for a couple of reasons.
Placing the quilt blocks on-point changes their appearance, and sewing a dark fabric in the corners makes the corners pop out instead of the star tips -- an area that's often the focus.
Star tips are made from quick-pieced quarter square triangle units and the center square is sewn from a black print swirled with white.
Alternate Quilt Blocks
Alternate blocks have black dotted squares at their centers, surrounded by squares cut from a multicolor print. At a first glance at the layout, it's difficult to see that the alternate blocks have half square triangle units at their corners, assembled from the same gray used in Ohio Stars and combined with the dotted black.
Make additional quilt blocks and alter borders as necessary to create a larger quilt.
