- Cut (3) 9-1/2" wide strips of splotchy teal fabric from selvage to selvage. Square up one end of each strip. Cut a total of (47) 2-1/2" segments from the strips.
- Cut (2) 2-1/2" wide strips of dark blue fabric from selvage to selvage. Square up one end of each strip. Cut a total of (30) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares.
- Assemble a sashing/cornerstone unit as illustrated with (5) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" dark squares and (4) 2-1/2" x 9-1/2" bars. Begin and end the unit with a blue cornerstone. Press seam allowances towards the long bars.
- Make five more identical units.
- Arrange blocks into five rows, each with four blocks. Connect the blocks in a row by sewing sashing bars between them. Sew a sashing bar at the beginning and end of the row, too. Press seam allowances towards the sashing.
- Assemble all five rows in the same manner.
- Connect the rows by sewing a horizontal sashing/cornerstone strip between them, butting seams carefully. Finish by sewing a sashing/cornerstone strip to the top of the quilt and to the bottom.
Add the Borders & Finish the Quilt
- Use 2-1/2" wide strips of yellow/gold fabric to make the inner borders. Beginners - don't be tempted to measure your quilt along its outer edges, because it is likely skewed a bit. Borders are an opportunity to square up the quilt before the finishing steps. (Border Instructions)
- Using 4-1/2" wide strips of medium blue fabric, sew the outer borders to the quilt.
- Mark the top for quilting if necessary. Sandwich with batting and backing and quilt. Finish by applying the binding.
