Assemble the Quilt Top
- Cut two 9-3/8" x 9-3/8" squares from the pale green print. Cut each square in half once diagonally to make four corner triangles.
- Cut two 18-1/4" x 18-1/4" squares from the pale green print. Cut each square in half twice diagonally to make eight setting triangles.
- Sew the quilt blocks and setting triangles into diagonal rows as shown. Press seam allowances towards the setting triangles and Eight Hands Around blocks.
- Sew the diagonal rows together, matching seams carefully from row to row.
- Center and sew a corner triangle to each corner of the quilt. Press the quilt.
- Add straight borders to the quilt. Make the inner border from remaining 2-1/2" wide darkest blue strips. Make the outer border from 7-1/2" wide blue print strips. Use my straight border instructions to construct the borders and sew them to the quilt.
If you are a new quilter, don't be tempted to make borders that match the measurements along the sides of your quilt. Borders offer an excellent opportunity to correct inconsistencies, leaving you with a quilt that's in-square along its edges. So be sure to read the instructions if this is new to you.
- Mark for quilting if necessary. Sandwich the quilt with batting and backing. Quilt by hand or machine. Trim and square-up excess edges and sew binding strips around the quilt edges.
