The terms Jewel Box and Buckeye Beauty refer to the same quilt design, but Jewel Box quilts are made from multiple 4-block groups like the blocks illustrated on this page, often (but not always) stitched in vibrant jewel-tone fabrics against a contrasting background.
Jewel Box is our Forum's Block Lotto choice for June, 2009. Kathi, the event hostess, will feature blocks made from a combination of solid black or black tone-on-tone (ToT) fabrics in the background, with diagonal elements in bright batiks.
You'll find instructions to make the quilt blocks (and yardages for a quilt) here, but it's important to review the specific instructions on the Quilting Forum if you would like to participate in the event. Read Entire Guidelines in the Forum
As always, the quilt pattern will remain on the site for quilters to use any time they wish.
Finished block size: 10" x 10"
The 4-block illustration on this page finishes at 20" x 20". You'll make single quilt blocks for the Block Lotto.
Fabrics for One Quilt Block
The Block Lotto is geared towards helping quilters make blocks using the scraps in their fabric stashes, so cutting instructions are typically for single patches. You'll find strip piecing instructions for multiple blocks (a quilt of your own) on page 3.
