Darting Birds Quilt Block Pattern
Four Patch Units
- Sew a 2-1/2" x 33" background strip lengthwise to a golden yellow strip of the same size. Press seam allowance towards the darker strip.
- Square up one end of the strip set and cut (12) 2-1/2" segments from it
- Sew a 2-1/2" x 33" background strip lengthwise to a green strip of the same size. Press seam allowance towards the darker strip.
- Square up one end of the strip set and cut (12) 2-1/2" segments from it
- Combine one segment from each group, sewing the two together with backgrounds placed diagonally as shown and butting seams for a good match. Press.
- Repeat to make a total of (12) four patch units.
Flying Geese Units
Use my quick pieced flying geese instructions to create (24) flying geese units from the 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" navy blue rectangles and remaining 2-1/2" background squares.
Assemble the Darting Birds Quilt Blocks
- Arrange a four patch unit to the left of a flying geese unit as shown in the illustration's lower row, middle. Sew together and press seam towards the four patch.
- Arrange a flying geese unit to the left of a red square as illustrated. Sew and press seam allowance towards the square.
- Join the two block sections and press.
- Repeat to make a total of (12) Darting Birds quilt blocks.
