Cracker Quilt Pattern
This small quilt is made with 6" Cracker quilt blocks. The blocks can be sewn into groups of four to make the final layout easier. Be sure to look at the last two pages of the pattern for additional layouts options before you sew quilt blocks together. A design wall will help you choose a layout.
Quilting Fabrics
Only two fabrics are used for the Cracker quilt blocks, a black print and a turquoise blue mottled fabric, but you can sew with additional fabrics, and may prefer to make a scrap quilt from the pattern. When using two fabrics, you'll need about 1-1/4 yards of each.
Finished quilt size: 36" x 60"
About the Cracker Quilt Block
Cracker quilt blocks are made up of patchwork bars with triangles at their ends. The two block variations used are in opposite color layouts -- see pages 2 and 3 for examples. One caution: the bars are cut 1-15/16" wide, halfway between the 1-7/8" and 2" lines on our rotary rulers. You can manage the cut in different ways:
- Estimate the distance when you cut the strips; that method is not exact, but will be accurate enough if you are consistent from strip to strip)
- Use a metal ruler with accurate markings to draw a 1-15/16" wide strip on copier paper; cut it out (recheck width along its entire length) and tape it to your rotary ruler to help make accurate cuts
- Use masking tape to mark a line on your rotary ruler
- Download my pdf file, cut out the strip and then tape it to your rotary ruler
