Christmas Star Quilt Block Pattern
The Christmas Star quilt block is assembled with a combination of half square triangles and squares. We'll use strip piecing to avoid handling some of the individual squares.Cutting instructions assume you'll use the sandwich technique to assemble half square triangle units. Alter the instructions to use another method.
Square up one end of strips before cutting shapes from them.
Make Half Square Triangle Units for the Quilt Block
- Cut a 4-7/8" wide strip of neutral fabric, from selvage to selvage; cut (8) 4-7/8" x 4-7/8" squares from strip
- Cut (2) 4-7/8" squares from medium green strip
- Cut a 4-7/8" x 31" strip from the dark green floral; cut (6) 4-7/8" x 4-7/8" squares from the strip
- Using the sandwich method, pair each neutral square with the various green squares to make half square triangle units (4 med-green/neutral and 12 dark green/neutral). Each triangle square unit should measure 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" when complete.
Make Strip Pieced Segments
- Cut a 4-1/2" x 19" strip of neutral fabric. Sew the strip lengthwise to the pre-cut gold strip of the same size. press seam allowance towards the gold strip.
- Square up one end of the strip set and cut four 4-1/2" segments from it.
Center Square
Cut a 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" dark green floral square for the quilt block's center.
