Christmas Star Quilt Pattern

It's easy to make a wallhanging from a 20" version of the traditional Christmas Star quilt block. All you have to do is make the quilt block, add setting triangles, sew on a narrow accent border and then finish up the quilt top with a wider border.

The quilt illustrated contains five different fabrics -- feel free to use more if you like.

Finished block size: 20" x 20"

Finished quilt size: about 36" x 36"

Materials for the Christmas Star Quilt (20" block)

Neutral background: 1/8 yard

Medium green for corner units: 4-7/8" x 10-1/2" strip

Dark green/floral for center, inner half square triangle units and narrow border: 1/4 yard

Gold for inner squares: 4-1/2" x 19" strip

Deep red for setting triangles and wide border: 1-1/2 yard (if you do not want to piece the borders; avoid directional fabrics)

Backing: 1-1/3 yard (about 44" square)

Thin Batting: about 44" square

Binding: About 165 running inches of doublefolding binding (binding strip instructions)
