Assemble the Christmas Orchard Quilt

Two blocks used in the Christmas Orchard quilt.

Assemble the Christmas Orchard Quilt

Refer to the illustration on page 1.

  1. Arrange the quilt blocks in seven rows, each row with five blocks. Lay out blocks to alternate from row to row as shown.

  2. Check layout and then sew the blocks in each row together, matching seams carefully. Press new seam allowances towards the Practical Orchard quilt blocks.

  3. Sew rows together, butting seams for a good match. Press.

  4. Add three butted borders to the quilt, one border at a time. Use 3-1/2" strips for the first, red border; 1-1/2" gold strips for the middle border and 3-1/2" green strips for the outer border.

Be sure to use my border instructions to measure and sew borders. Don't be tempted to measure border lengths along the outside edges of your quilt -- I guarantee those edges are somewhat skewed. Borders are your opportunity to bring the quilt into square.

  5. Mark top for quilting if necessary. Sandwich with batting and backing. Quilt. Bind with doublefold binding.
