  1. Make a strip set by sewing four 3-1/2" x 19" strips together lengthwise.

  2. Press seam allowances one direction.

  3. Square up one end of the strip set and cut (4) 4-1/2" wide segments from it.

  4. Make four more strip sets from the remaining red strips, varying fabrics and/or fabric placement in each set.

  5. Cut a total of 20 segments from your strip sets.

  6. Create five columns with the segments -- each column has four segments. You can sew each group of four together end to end now, or leave them on a table or design wall and shift them around to suit as you work on the quilt.
