Golden Yellow:
- (1) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" square
- (2) 2-7/8" x 2-7/8" squares
Lightish Green:
- (4) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles
- (2) 2-7/8" x 2-7/8" squares
Deepest Red: (8) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares
Medium Green: (8) 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares
Black:
- (4) 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles
- (4) 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" squares
Assemble Block Components
Refer to the Illustration.
- Use the easy sandwich method to make four half-square triangle units from the 2-7/8" lightish green and yellow squares. Each unit should measure 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" when complete.
- Use the quick pieced flying geese method (page 5) to make four flying geese units from the 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" lightish green rectangles and the 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" red squares.
- Use the quick pieced flying geese method to make four flying geese units from the black rectangles and the medium green squares.
Assemble the Quilt Block
- Assemble the top and bottom rows of the inner (small) star by sewing black squares to each end of two black/green geese units as shown. Press seam allowances towards the geese.
- Assemble the middle row of the small star by sewing the large gold square between two geese units. Press seam allowances towards the square.
- Sew the small star rows together, matching seams carefully. Press. The unit should measure 4-1/2" x 4-1/2".
- Assemble the top and bottom outer block rows by sewing half-square triangle units to each end of two deep red/green (large) geese units as shown. Press seam allowances towards the corner units.
- Sew a geese unit to each side of the small star to create the middle row of the large star.
- Sew the three rows together to complete the quilt block. The block should measure 8-1/2" x 8-1/2".
