Bleeding

By Janet Wickell, About.com

Definition: Bleeding occurs when fabrics lose their dyes when they are wet. It is most commonly seen when washing vividly colored fabrics, particularly reds and purples. Bleeding is a problem if the dyes stain other fabrics.
