Let me begin by saying this is not a quilting book. It is a look at the art and design studios of twenty-six women, including quilter Freddy Moran and designer April Cornell. I went through through the book cover to cover the day it arrived -- I could not put it down.

Inspiration from the Artists and Designers

You won't find sterile solutions for organizing your studio in Where Women Create. Don't get me wrong -- the book is packed with ideas for studio organization, but it goes way beyond that, because these studios are places you want to hang out, even when you're not working on your craft.

The studios are retreats, and each one flows into the decor of the home or building around it -- and suits the tastes of its owner.

Tips from the Women

You'll find a short but interesting bio about each woman, accompanied by many photos of her studio. Each artist offers tips to help you create your own individual space. I found wonderful solutions for quilt-related storage on every page, and not just among the studios of textile artists.

You won't hesitate to leave the door to your sewing room open if you use this book to help design it. The biggest problem you'll have is keeping it to yourself, because everyone will gravitate there. Where Women Create is a must-read if you're ready to design a space that will destress you and spark your creative juices.
