Make More Double Four Patch Quilt Blocks

Yardages include allowance for shrinkage.

For sixteen blocks in each colorway:

Blue fabric: 1 1/4 yard

White fabric: 1 1/4 yard

  • Cut four blue strips and four white strips, each 4-1/2" x 42" (cut selvage to selvage). Cut thirty-two 4-1/2" squares of each color.

  • Cut eight blue strips and eight white strips, each 2-1/2" x 42" (cut selvage to selvage). Make four strip sets as shown on page 2 and cut sixteen 2-1/2" segments from each -- 128 total.

For Ninety Double Four-Patch Quilt Blocks

The illustration near the top of the page is just one example of the many layouts you can create with this quilt block. The quilt contains ninety blocks, nine across and ten down, with adjacent blocks flip-flopped to create alternating pathways. You'll need forty-five light and forty-five dark blocks.

Choose two fabrics to make a quilt similar to the quilt in the illustration, or go totally scrappy with lots of fabrics.

Dark Fabric(s): 3-1/2 yards

Light Fabric(s): 3-1/2 yards

Cutting Instructions

  • Cut ten 4-1/2" x 42" dark strips. Cut ten 4-1/2" light strips. Cut a total of ninety 4-1/2" squares from each group of strips.

  • Cut twelve 2-1/2" x 42" dark strips. Cut twelve 2-1/2" x 42" white strips. Pair together to make twelve strip sets. Cut sixteen 2-1/2" segments from each strip set -- 360 total.

  • Sew quilt blocks together as shown on page three.
