Cut the Fabric for Your Quilt Blocks

  1. Cut one 2-1/2" x 22" strip of blue fabric (provides a bit of extra length to allow squaring-up).

  2. Cut one 2-1/2" x 22" strip of white-on-white fabric.

  3. Cut two 4-1/2" blue squares. Cut two 4-1/2" white squares.

Make a Strip Set

  1. Use a 1/4" seam allowance to sew the 22" white and blue fabric strips together along their long edges. Carefully press the seam allowance towards the blue strip. See How to Press Quilt Blocks for help.

  2. Square-up one end of the strip-set you just made, and then cut eight 2-1/2" wide segments from it. Check periodically to make sure the leading edge is still at a 90-degree angle to the bottom of the strip set. If it isn't, square up the edge before cutting more segments.
