Make a Four Patch Unit

  1. Sew a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" blue square to a black/white square. Press seam allowance towards the darkest fabric. Repeat to make another identical black/blue unit.
  2. Sew the segments together, placing unlike sections as shown and butting seams for a good match. Press.

Flying Geese Units

Use my quick pieced flying geese instructions to create a flying geese units from (1) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" black/white rectangle and the (2) 2-1/2" blue squares.

Assemble the Darting Birds Quilt Blocks

  1. Arrange a four patch unit to the left of a flying geese unit as shown in the illustration's lower row, left. Sew together and press seam towards the four patch.

  2. Arrange a flying geese unit to the left of a black/white square as illustrated. Sew and press seam allowance towards the square.

  3. Join the two block sections and press.

  4. Your block should measure 6-1/2" x 6-1/2".
