This is about as simple and basic as you can get for a Bright Hopes block layout. The blocks are identical and sewn in a straight set. You can create a lot more interest by varying fabrics and color values--and by rotating some of the blocks into different positions.

This quilt block is so easy to make. It would make a good group project because even beginners can stitch it up quickly, with no problems.

To make other block sizes:

3" Miniature Quilt Blocks:

  • One 1-1/2" square, four 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles

6" Quilt Blocks:

  • One 2-1/2" square, four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles

9" Quilt Blocks:

  • One 3-1/2" square, four 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles
