Peter was my friend's 40 year old son who passed away prematurely from complications of diabetes. After he passed, his mom and sister sent me 36 of his favorite tee shirts, and asked me to make a quilt from them. At the same time I was learning to free Motion quilt. Before quilting each block, I would watch the corresponding video on Leah Day's site, draw the motif in my notebook and then practice it on a 6" square.
Each block was FMQ'd with a different quilting motif, and the 36 blocks were joined using the Crazy Short Cut Quilt method I learned from Marguerita McManus. Sashing seams and binding are embellished with machine embroidery stitches. Making this quilt really accelerated my learning curve for free motion quilting.
