Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative Quilt - The Ties that Bind

© AmyB
From AmyB: This little quilt is 8.5" square, and each unit is 3" x 4.5" The quilt was made for Ami Simm's Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, in response to a forum member's challenge. Yarns and ribbons were couched, it was machine quilted, and includes applied eyelets and yarn ties.

Artist's Statement: The arrangement of the tiny quilt units follows the traditional Bright Hopes quilt block. I left the small center empty, signifying the "core" person that disappears when Alzheimer's takes over. The ties symbolize the love and caring that bind both the patient and his or her loved ones together.

Dedication: Made in honor of Laurel G., who has early-onset Alzheimer's, and those who love her.
