Stitching a New Year's Day Mystery Quilt has become a tradition at About.com Quilting. I write a pattern each year, and publish it in December, giving fabric and cutting instructions. But you won't know what the quilt looks like until New Year's Day, when instructions are released in bits and pieces over several hours.
Forum members start a lively conversation before January 1, and many share photos of their fabric choices. I don't usually show fabrics, because I think it would be too much of an influence -- it's more fun if you select your own.
The five quilts (or partial quilts) on this page are just a few of the projects from 2010 and 2011, and you can see how very different they are from each other. No two quilts ever looks the same -- they are all unique. I hope you'll join us to stitch a quilt on the next New Year's Day.
