Paper Pieced Miniature Quilt PatternThis paper pieced miniature scrap quilt finishes at 21-inches square and is made with sixteen 3-inch square traditional Whirlwind blocks. The whirl in each quilt block is a different print, but they all share the same background fabric, which helps tie the blocks together. (Make the background scrappy if you prefer, but try to choose fabrics with similar color values.)
Miniature Quilt BordersA 1-1/2" inner border surrounds the four rows of blocks and a 3" border follows to frame the entire quilt.
Before You Make the QuiltIf you are not familiar with foundation paper piecing, read Paper Piecing Basics and Paper Piecing Tips before you begin to get a basic understanding of the process and to determine if you will use permanent or temporary foundations -- either works fine for for this quilt pattern.
Two template files are included, and are mirror images of each other. Each page includes templates for two Whirlwind quilt blocks. Print four of each page, and do not allow your printer to scale the images:
Cut enough fabric for a block or two and make adjustments to patch size if necessary as you sew -- that step is important for any foundation pieced pattern.
