Assemble Block Variation One

  1. Use template B to make 12 foundation units. They are assembled as template A but without piece 10.

  2. Sew a B section to the square end of an A section (lower left illustration). Remove paper and press the seam allowance towards the center.

  3. Cut a 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" dark square. Cut it in half twice diagonally. Sew the short side of a resulting triangle to each side of the remaining B units as shown (upper left illustration). Remove foundations and press seam allowances towards the dark triangles.

  4. Repeat to make a second identical block section.

  5. Sew a triangle/foundation block section to each side of the long foundation unit created in step 2, matching ends and center seam intersections carefully. Remove papers from seam allownces only and press the block.

  6. Make three more identical Variation One quilt blocks.
