Make a Miniature Bear's Paw Quilt
I made this miniature Bear's Paw quilt several years ago. Although I rarely use solid fabrics, but chose solids for this project because I wanted the interior of the quilt to have a slightly Amish feel, even though the colors aren't typical for Amish quilts.
Cornerstones and pieced sashing separate the little Bear's Paw quilt blocks. A narrow black border is applied first, followed by a floral border that picks up some of the colors used in the blocks and sashing.
The binding is made from the outer border fabric.
The half square triangle units used in my Bear's Paw quilt blocks finish at 1/2" square. That's small, so definitely consider making the units oversize and then trimming them back to the exact, unfinished (1" x 1") size before sewing them into the block. Mine aren't perfect, but they're close.
Finished Mini Bear's Paw Quilt Block: 3-1/2" x 3-1/2"
Finished Mini Quilt: 19" x 19"
Quilting Fabrics & Other Materials
Fabric yardages are generous. Refer to cutting instructions on page 2, because your scrap bin might yield pieces that are large enough to make this quilt.
Red for Bear's Paw quilt blocks and for cornerstones: 1/4 yard
Purple for sashing and for centers of Bear's Paw quilt blocks: 1/4 yard
Black for blocks, sashing and inner border: 1/4 yard
Floral for outer border and binding: 1/2 yard
Binding: Make about 100 running inches of doublefold binding to finish at 1/4" (Quilt Binding Strip Instructions)
