Official cancer ribbon colors are the awareness ribbons we hear about most often, but completely unrelated diseases and conditions have official ribbon colors, too.
Pink ribbons, for breast cancer awareness, are probably the most widely recognized cancer ribbon. The gold (and sometimes yellow gold) ribbons used for childhood cancer awareness are beginning to be seen more often.
The list of colors that show support for specific diseases is growing and sometimes the same color is used for completely different conditions. In some cases. the colors that are selected represent the anatomy that's affected by the disease, such as red for heart conditions. Autism's jigsaw puzzle ribbon was chosen to illustrate the state of mind that autistic individuals may be experiencing.
- To make a quilt with a ribbon design, try my awareness ribbon quilt block pattern. You'll find two quilt block sizes to work with.
- A jigsaw puzzle quilt pattern would work for autistic individuals, and be a fun design for a child with cancer if sewn in shades of yellow to gold.
- Quilters make comfort quilts for friends and family who are struggling with disease and our community is also well known for donating quilts for research and charity.
- Always remember that the quilt you make will be appreciated, no matter what colors are within its design.
The list of ribbon colors below may help you choose a color scheme when you're making an awareness or comfort quilt. Take a look at our comforts quilts gallery for design inspiration and browse my quilt patterns to find a project that suits your needs.
