Assembling the Table Runner Rows
- Gather the twelve pieced four-patch units and the two 5-1/2" squares.
- Sew two four-patch units side by side to make a row like the shorter, top unit in the photo above. Be sure to arrange components as shown. Repeat to make a total of four identical rows.
- Sew a 5-1/2" square between two four-patch units as illustrated in the bottom, longer row in the photo above. Pay close attention to the arrangement of the four-patch units in relation to the center square--notice that units are positioned differently on each side. Repeat to make a total of two identical rows.
Let's Break a Rule
Find the two triangles cut by dividing a 10-7/8" square in half once diagonally -- we're about to break a quilting "rule." Sew a line of stitches about 1/8" inward from the longest edge. There's no need to start at the pointed corner -- move inward a bit to avoid pushing the pointed tip into the feed dogs. The stitches will help stabilize the triangle's stretchy edge.
