Wishing Ring Quilt Layout

Greek Cross Quilt Layout Suggestion

Wishing Ring blocks in this quilt are alternated with Snowball Blocks. Side corners of the Snowballs can vary -- these stretch 2/5ths down each side of the block to coincide with Wishing Ring patchwork. Another alternative is to make snowballs with corners that stretch 1/5th of the way down the block.

To make a Snowball block, cut one 15-1/2" - 15-1/2" greenish yellow square and four 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" dark green squares. Use the quick pieced tip method to sew the squares to the corners of the block.

A reader suggested that you sew another seam line 1/2" past the first. Then, when you cut away excess fabric at corners, the pieces that fall away will be a ready-made half square triangle units that can be added to your stash and trimmed up to the size required for your next project. You could also sew the units together and make coordinating throw pillows or even a small wallhanging.

Make Wishing Ring blocks as directed on the previous page, assembling the components required for each block in your quilt. Make longer strip pieced units for yellow-green/black segments as needed. Remember that you need for for each block; you should be able to cut 12 from each selvage-length strip -- or enough for three blocks.
