Sawtooth Star Quilt Block Pattern

The Sawtooth Star is one of the most popular traditional quilt blocks you'll encounter. And because it's so popular, you'll find there are lots of variations of the design, including this star with a 16-patch unit at its center.

The center unit can be strip pieced or sewn together square-by-square. Star tips are Flying Geese units, and can be easily quick pieced. Block corners are plain squares.

Fabrics & Cutting

Star tips, dark blue: (4) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares

Block corners, med-light blue print: (4) 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" squares

Flying Geese backgrounds (same) med-light blue print: 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles

16-Patch Center, white/blue dots: (8) 2" x 2" squares; blue stripe: (8) 2" x 2" squares

OPTION: For a strip pieced 16-patch center, replace the 2" squares with (2) 2" x 9" strips of each fabric: white/blue dots and blue stripe.
