Road to California Quilt Block Pattern
Scrap-Happy Sampler Quilt cutting suggestions are at the bottom of the page. The name Road to California and Rocky Road to California have been used for several quilt block designs, some very similar to this and some with different components.
The block is similar to other designs, including Jacob's Ladder. The good news -- Road to California is beginner-friendly.
The fabrics used blend into each other just a bit -- you can see the differences in patches, but overall the look is subdued. Switch to warm-vibrant darks and place them next to cool-lights to produce a quilt block with lots of contrast between patches (see color dominance).
Road to California makes a wonderful scrap quilt, so dig through your stash for fabric.
