Assemble the Quick Pieced Geese Units
Picnic Time is made with two different patchwork bars. Both can be assembled using the quick pieced Flying Geese technique. The triangles at the ends of each bar don't come together like they do in geese, there's more of a gap, but the construction method is the same.
Outer Patchwork Bars
These four bars are positioned around the outer perimeter of the quilt block. Top of illustration.
- Gather (4) long black bars and (8) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" cream-colored squares. Use the quick Flying Geese method to sew a square to each end of the bars (end result will be triangles). Make sure angles are oriented as shown.
- Sew a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" deep-gold square to each end of two patchwork bars. Leave the remaining two bars as-is. Press seam allowances towards the gold squares.
Inner Patchwork Bars
These four bars are sewn to the quilt block's center square. Top of illustration.
- Gather (4) medium-dark brown bars and (8) brown/gold squares. Use the Flying Geese technique again to sew squares to the ends of the bars (end result will be triangles). Make sure angles are oriented as shown.
- Sew a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" deep-gold square to each end of two patchwork bars. Leave the remaining two bars as-is. Press seam allowances towards the gold squares.
