Two variations of long, patchwork bars (around the green center square and around the block's perimeter) can be assembled using the quick pieced flying geese technique, which means you won't work with individual triangles at all during block assembly.
Finished block size: 14" x 14" square
Fabric & Cutting
Before you choose fabrics, decide how the quilt block will be used. Will you sew with a wide variety of fabrics to make a batch of scrappy blocks? One-block patterns like this are perfect for that purpose. Do you need quilt blocks for a small project, like a table runner or placemats?Take a look at the example on page 4 if you plan to assemble lots of blocks. It offers a preview of Picnic Time blocks sewn next to Snowballs (which nearly always offer an easy way to "link" blocks at corners to create visual flow).
Landscape-like fabrics will give the blocks a true picnic theme.
