Sew Quilt Block
Cutting instructions to assemble the Philadelphia Pavement quilt block one patch at a time (half square triangle units are quick pieced). See pages 3 and 4 for strip piecing instructions if you prefer to make many identical quilt blocks.Dusty pink tone on tone
- (4) 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" bars
Small scale multicolor print w/dusty pink background
- (5) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares
- (2) 2-7/8" x 2-7/8" squares
Ivory print with green dots
- (4) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" squares
- (2) 2-7/8" x 2-7/8" squares
- Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner on the back of both 2-7/8" ivory/green dot squares.
- Pair each marked ivory/green dot square with a dusty pink/print square of the same size. Use the easy sandwich method to turn each pair into two half square triangle units. When complete, each unit should measure 2-1/2" x 2-1/2".
- Refer to the illustration, middle row left. Arrange four half square triangle units, four 2-1/2" ivory/green dot squares and one 2-1/2" pink/print square into three rows as shown. Sew components of each row together. Press seam allowances towards the ivory/green dot squares.
- Sew the rows together, matching edges and seam intersections.
- Refer to the illustration, bottom left. Sew a 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" dusty pink bar to the top and bottom edges of the center Shoo Fly section you just completed. Press seam allowances towards the bars.
- Sew a 2-1/2" dusty pink/ print square to each end of the remaining two long bars. Press seam allowances toward the bar.
- Sew a bar to the left and right sides of the block as shown, bottom right. Press. The quilt block should measure 10-1/2" x 10-1/2".
