Assemble the Half Square Triangle Units

  1. Make thirty-two half-square triangle units by combining the light and dark 3-7/8" squares. Use this quick-piecing technique to assemble the triangle squares.

Stop after making the first pair and measure the units. Each should be exactly 3-1/2" square. If units are smaller than that, make sure pressing was adequate. If the next pair is still too small, try sewing the squares together with a scant 1/4" seam allowance--just slightly smaller than 1/4".

  2. Now use the same method to make thirty-two triangle units from the warm-light and light fabric squares.

Tip: Use chain piecing to sew seams more quickly.
