Use this quilt pattern to stitch a quilt made with a variation of the traditional Grandma's Choice quilt block (four pinwheel units separated by sashing). Follow the instructions to make a wallhanging, or sew extra blocks to create a larger quilt.
Change the look of this little quilt by altering the colors and color values of the fabrics.
Cutting Chart
Use rotary cutting techniques and cut all pieces so that the straight grain of the fabric is parallel to the patch's outside edges.
Cool Dark Fabric: 1/4 yard
for half square triangles, dark blue print in the example
- Cut two, 3-7/8" x 42" strips, then cut strips into sixteen 3-7/8" squares
Warm Light Fabric: 3/8 yard
half square triangles, block & sashing centers, gold in example
- Cut two, 3-7/8" x 42" strips, then cut into sixteen 3-7/8" squares
- Cut one, 2" x 20" strip, then cut into nine 2" squares
- Cut one, 2" x 35" strip
Light Fabric: 1/2 yard
half square triangles, off white in example
- Cut four, 3-7/8" x 42" strips, then cut thirty-two 3-7/8" squares from the strips
Warm Medium Fabric: 5/8 yard
sashing and block bars, violet in example
- Cut two, 6-1/2" x 35" strips
- Cut one, 6 1/2" x 18" strip, then cut into eight 2" x 6-1/2" bars
alternative: cut a portion of the bars from the leftover ends of the 6-1/2" x 35" strips
Use an exact 1/4" seam allowance for all seams.
