Begin Assembling the Quilt Block
- Sew a 2" x 17" medium brown strip to a black print strip of the same size. Press seam allowance towards the black strip.
- Use your rotary cutting equipment to square up one end of the strip set, and then cut (8) 2" segments from it.
- Arrange two segments as shown, one flipped around so that like-colors are diagonal from each other. Sew together, butting seams for a perfect match. Press seam allowance either way. The resulting four patch unit should measure 3-1/2" x 3-1/2".
- Make three more four patch units from the remaining segments.
- Cut a 4-1/2" x 9-1/2" bar from your lightest fabric. Cut two red strips, each measuring 2" x 4-1/2".
- Sew a black strip lengthwise to each side of the light strip. Press seam allowances towards the black strips.
- Square up one end of the strip set and then cut (2) 2" segments from it.
- Cut (2) 2" x 9-1/2" bars from your lightest fabric.
- Cut a 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" square from your black print.
- Cut (2) 3-7/8" x 3-7/8" tan print squares and (2) red squares of the same size. Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner on the reverse side of each lighter square. Pair each light square with a dark square.
- Use the easy sandwich method to turn each pair into two half square triangle units. When complete, each of the four units should measure 3-1/2" x 3-1/2".
